Southern Pride 4-H Club

The Southern Pride 4-H Club held their regular monthly meeting December 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the Community State Bank of Orbisonia. President Libby Sarra called the meeting to order. Keith Anderson and Mason Hart led the pledges. Secretary Katie Anderson took roll call and read the secretary report. Leader Shannon Cramer updated the club on totals for the fundraisers and treasurer's report. Under old business, the club won 1st place at the Mount Union parade winning $300.00 in the float category. Leaders Shannon and Lori Cramer and Hunter and Heather Hart were thanked for their leadership and hard work with the float. The ham sandwich fundraiser went well. Thank you to Shannon Cramer for organizing the fundraiser and a big thank you to all of the members who came and made the sandwiches. Under new business the club voted to attend the Harrisburg Farm Show in January. Kevin Detwiler was aksed to drive a bus to the farm show. The club will get a total number to attend and get back to Kevin about transportation. Election of officers were held. The new 2010 club officers are Libby Sarra - President; Camden Woodward - Vice President; Keith Anderson - Treasurer; Liz Scott - Secretary; Mykeshia Goshorn - News Reporter; Derrick Cramer - Song and Game Leader; and Michaela Gartlant - Historian. After election, Tate and Beth Robison led the club in a fleece blanket project. The blankets will be given to the Children's Ward at J.C. Blair Memorial Hopsital. Members were able to complete 13 blankets. After the meeting the club enjoyed a snack of Christmas cookies and milk. The next meeting will be held Januayr 5th, 6:30 p.m. at the Community State Bank of Orbisonia.

Southern Pride 4-H Club

The Southern Pride 4-H Club met November 28th to decorate a Christmas tree for display at the Three Springs Ambulance Building. The theme for their tree is Head, Hands, Heart and Health. All of the ornaments were handmade by members. Michaela and Sue Gartland made the ceramic apple ornaments; Libby, Bower and Orion Sarra made the mitten ornaments; Tate and Beth Robinson made the heart and hat ornaments; Katie and Carrie Anderson made the clvoer tree topper and the tree skirt.

TROUCH CREEK COMMUNITY ADVENTURERS 4-H CLUB

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club held a meeting on November 9th at the Lion's Community Building in Cassville. We held election of officers for the 2009/10 4-H Year. The members who were elected are: President - Jessica Heeter; Vice President - Hillaire Harkleroad; Treasurer - Kelsey Morgan; Secretary - Abbey Cresswell; Historian - Brandie Hobble; and News Reporter - Cora Waite.

A Johnson Hall project day is scheduled for this Sunday, November 15h from 2 - 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Cassville. The projects that we will work on are scrapbooking, tye dye items, handmade cards, drawing or painting and fabric painting. Club members and parents worked on Holiday Fleece blankets. Members who wish to participate can bring fabric to craft day or next meeting. The next club meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on December 14th at 6:30 p.m. Members are to bring two dozen cookies and Christmas cards.

Shirley Variety Pak

Valerie Coleman called the meeting to order. Cody Harshbarger led us in the American Pledge. Shayla Benson led us in the 4-H Pledge. The Treasurer's report was given.

Under old business, we had our soup and bake sale at the Shirleysburg Lions Pavillion on November 7th. Under new business, weigh-in for steers is November 21st. Our club has to choose a community service project for January. Cody motioned to adjourn the meeting. Shayla seconded the motion.

4-H Halloween Party

At the Southern Huntingdon 4-H Mountain Riders, we attended a Halloween party at the Myers' Farm in SHade Gap. We had a stick horse race that was timed, we were given a name and we had to find the number and write it down, run back and the person with the fastest time won. Naomi Speer supplied the scary rewards and Donna Collins personally sewed the stick horse heads that we had as our horse on the cold, wet and dreary day. Then, we all brought a covered dish and we sat at the ghostly table and ate, talked and had a great time filling our stomachs and having conversations with our fellow 4-H parents and members. After eating, we had some of the kids bring costumes and we had a spooky costume contest. I must admit it was very interesting and creative. After we were done with that, we had a find the puppy contest because the little Jack Russell terrier had her puppies somewhere outside and the puppies had to be found. As soon as the puppies were found, we got the puppies and cleaned up from the Halloween Party and all headed home. The party was fun and a creative one at that!

Southern Pride 4-H Club

Southern Pride 4-H Club participated in the Mount Union Halloween Parade Thursday, October 29th. The club theme for the float was "Get In the Swing of It, Join Southern Pride 4-H Club". The float was designed by Leaders Hunter and Heather Hart and then decorated with the help of club members. The truck and trailer was provided by Shannon and Lori Cramer. Members wore costumes to celebrate the Halloween Season.

Participating in the event are: front row - Dane Woodward, Curtis Starr, Amanda Granlun, Derrick Cramer, Orion Sarra, Bower Sarra. Middle Row - Scotty Goshorn, Molly Sarrra, DeShane Goshorn, Garret Cramer, Chance Goshorn, Keith Anderson. Back Row - Kaley Booher, Liz Scott, Libby Sarra, Katie Anderson, Michaela Gartland and Mykeshia Goshorn.

Blair and Huntingdon Counties County Council 4-H

The Huntingdon and Blair Counties County Council 4-H Club met on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm at the 4-H Extension Office in Huntingdon, PA.

Paige Wertz called this meeting to order. Becca Davis led us in the American Pledge and Layne Reihart the 4-H Pledge. We then went over old business and discussed the upcoming dates for our 2010 Texas Exchange Trip. We then talked about the Tractor Supply Car Wash in Altoona.
We proceeded to New Business and talked about a potential fundraiser of taking a trip to the Farm Show in January. There will be more information in our upcoming Newsletters. We talked about 4-H National Conference March 20-25 in Maryland. If interested, please call Christine Corl at the Extension Office (814) 643-1660. We then voted on our new 2010 club officers. Southern Pride 4-H Club

The Southern Pride 4-H Club held their annual recognition and awards banquet October 18th at 6:30 in the evening. Organizational Leader Carrie Anderson welcomed each member and their families. Special guests such as 2009 Livestock Buyers, 4-H Sponsors and Grandparents were welcomed with a round of applause. The Prayer and Blessing was given by Matthew Kauffman. The 4-H Pledge and Pledge of Allegiance were led by Malachi Kauffman and DeShane Goshorn. The members enjoyed a pot luck dinner with pork roast as the main dish. The pork was donated by Shannon and Lori Cramer and roasted and prepared by Kevin Goshorn, Shannon Cramer and Wayne Anderson.

After the dinner, Carrie spoke briefly to the guests about the 2009 club activities and accomplishments. Carrie then presented each member with a participation certificate and a small gift; the club leaders were also recognized with a certificate. Other awards given were perfect attendance, club office awarrds, teen leadership and new member Scotty and Chance Goshorn and Mya Hart were welcomed with a club tee shirt and small gift. Special recognition was given to Volunteer Shirley Harnish for her leadership in the clothing and textile projects, while Shannon and Lori Cramer were awarded the parent of the year award for their leadership and dedication to the club. Southern Pride Friend of 4-H Award went to Dennie and Deb Cramer of Cramer Farms. they were presented with a certificate and a gift for their contributions and interest in the club and 4-H program.

Club livestock leader Kevin Goshorn presented the Golden Club Awards to 4 of the members. Kevin explained to the guests that this was new for our club. This award is given to honor the members that show exceptional interest in their club, other members, and an over all good attitude toward fellow members. The awards went to derrick Cramer, Anna Goshorn, Amanda Granlun, and Camden Woodward. Each member received a small trophy and a gift card for Laney's Feed Mill of Huntingdon. Leader Carrier Anderson then announced the 2009 Outstanding 4-H Nominees. Six members were chosen and will go to the Extension Office October 26th for interviews. The following members were awarded. Little Clover Girl - Rebecca Parsons, Little Clover Boy - Bower Sarra, Junior Girl - Katie Anderson, Junior Boy - Camden Woodward, Senior Girl - Tate Robinson and Senior Boy - Curtis Starr. Each of the nominees received a blue ribbon, certificate and a small wooden plaque. On behalf of the Southern Pride 4-H Club members Anna Goshorn, Amanda Granlun, and Chase Greene presented Carrie Anderson with a gift and a card in appreciation of her work and dedication the past year. To conclude, Carrie thanked everyone for attending and supporting the 4-H program and the Southern Pride 4-H Club.

The club will gather October 29th to participate in the Mount Union Halloween Parade. The next meeting will be held November 3rd at 4:30, St. Mary's Church to prepare and make Ham sandwiches for the club fundraiser.

Valerie Coleman called the meeting to order. Catherine Myers led us in the American Pledge. Cody Harshbarger led us in the 4-H pledge. Kendra Semple led us in the treasurer's report. WE voted on our office. Our president is Valerie Coleman. Cody Harshbarger is our new vice president. Zach McKeehan is our secretary. Kendra Semple is our treasurer. November 7th at the Shirleysburg Lion Pavillion we will be selling bean and chicken corn soup and having a bake sale. Bowls will be $2.00. Quarts will be $4.00. Zach motioned to have the soup and bake sale. Kendra seconded the motion. Tag day for steers is November 21 from 9 a.m. until noon. Shaver's Creek 4-H Club

At the October meeting for Shaver's Creek 4-H Club, members celebrated the Halloween season with a movie and a potluck meal, while also collecting items for the soliders in Iraq. To watch the movie, members had to bring an item on the list to send to the soliders, and they were encouraged to bring a friend. Cards were made by the 4-H members to send along to the soldiers with the items collected. The 4-Hers had a blast watching the movie "Monsters Vs. Aliens" and eating delicious popcorn provided by the Juniata Valley Band Boosters. Also at the meeting, members decided to elect officers at the next gathering on November 2nd. Shavers Creek 4-H Club invites anyone ages 8 to 18 to be a part of our club and have access to all the fun and life changing experiences that come with being a

4-Her. If you are interested in becoming a 4-H member, please join us at the November meeting on the 2nd of November at the Bethel Church in Petersburg at 6:30 p.m.

Outstanding 4-H'er Interviews Announced

Members whose clubs nominated them for the Outstanding 4-H'er Awards should watch their mailboxes...the nomination packets went out in today's mail! Interviews are being scheduled between 5 and 8:45 pm for Monday, October 26 in 15 minute appointments. Folks who are away at college may speak with Christine to arrange a telephone interview. All others who are nominated will receive a certificate at the banquet, but only those who attend and participate in an interview are eligible for the award. If you have questions, give us a call!

Southern Huntingdon County Mountain Riders

On September 20th, the SHC Mountain Riders had a trail ride at the Speerette Farm. Naomi and Katrina Speer had a trail leading up into the mountain. We had all the SHC Mountain Riders and our 4-H leader and parents, who came to enjoy the ride with us, accompanied by two new members.

The ride up the mountain was beautiful due to the changing colors of the leaves of fall setting in, and the pleasant weather we were experiencing that day. After the trail ride, the club had covered dishes so we could have an outside picnic. After we ate, we had a 4-H meeting, regarding new treasurers, reporters, and historians. We also congratulated the members who made it to States and their performances.

Officers elected were: Katrina Speer - President; Jackie McNee - Vice President and News Reporter; Cayla Myers - Treasurer and Historian.

Our leader, Donna Collins had brought up at the 4-H meeting that we have upcoming events to look forward to:

Huntingdon Hoofprinters 4-H Club

The Hoofprinters 4-H club held its monthly meeting on September 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds.

The meeting was called to order by President Corey Price. Jessica Meck led the American Pledge while Stephanie Mease led the members in the 4-H Pledge. Following the pledges, there was no secretary report given, but Cristen Henry gave the Treasurer's Report.

Under Old Business, a report was given by Stephanie Mease on the County Roundup Horse Show at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds. Emily Peters and Nick Whitmore reported on the western classes of the District Horse Show at the Bedford County Fairgrounds while Jessica Meck, Stephanie Mease and Jordan Hinkle informed the club about the English classes. State Horse Show qualifiers were also recognized and an account was provided regarding the Living Landscape and Johnson Hall displays at the County Fair.

Following old business, new business was discussed with the club brainstorming ideas for the upcoming 4-H year. Officers were reminded that their books are due into the Extension Office by September 30th and new record books were distributed to the members. There will be a State Horse Show Decorating committee meeting on September 22, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office for anyone who is interested. Members were also informed that starting this
4-H Year enrollment will be done electronically.

President Corey Price adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be on October 19, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntingdon County Extension Office. This will be the election of officers for the upcoming 4-H year.

Raystown Rabbit Ranchers 4-H Club

On September 19, 2009 the Raystown Rabbit Ranchers held their last meeting of the project year at 9 am. at the Extension Office. Sarah Jeffries and Ariel Planthaber led the American and the 4-H Pledges.

For roll call, we named a part of a rabbit and had to say an issue that could happen with that part.

The Secretary and Treasurer's reports were read and approved. The club sent out thank you notes to their 09 fair sponsors. Members were reminded to send out their own thank you notes to their 2009 fair buyers.

We will have a Food Booth at the Fall Rabbit Show that is at Rock Springs on October 25th. Everyone got a schedule with the time they are to work the food booth.

We elected new officers for the new project year. The officers are President Brooke Emery; Vice President Breeanna Oldham; Secretary Lyndsey Reed; Treasurer Jared Smith; Historians Sarah Jefferies and Allison Bousum; News Reporter Michaela Smith; Game Leader William Emery; and Vice Game Leader Halee Smith.

We played a game called "Fun with Rabbits". Our next meeting is October 17th at 9 am in the Extension Office Meeting Room. We said good bye to five members: Ariel Planthaber, Cody Goodman, Samantha Fogal, Nick Fogal and Kelsey Dysard. The club sang "Happy Birthday" to Anita Smith.

4-H Beef Club

On September 16, 2009 the 4-H Beef Club held their monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room.

The American Pledge was led by Halee Smith and the 4-H Pledge was led by Jared Smith.

The Secretary and Treasurer's reports were read and approved as read. Project books were handed in to the leader Karen Nichols.

Tag Day is November 21, 2009 from 8 - 11 a.m. for anyone planning to show a market steer at the 2010 Huntingdon County Fair.

The club wrote thank you notes to send out to the 09 sponsors. Everyone was reminded to send out thank you notes to their buyers from the 2009 fair.

Capri Goat 4-H Club, 9/13/09

The Capri Goat 4-H Club met on September 13th at the fairgrounds for the "end of the year" picnic. Breeanna Oldham led the American Pledge and Nicholas Whitmore led the 4-H Pledge. There was no secretary report and Megan Forgy gave the treasurer's report. Under old business, the club discussed the Johnson Hall display that the club entered in the fair. The club got 4th place. The club members handed in their project books and said that the next meeting, the October meeting, will be the first meeting of the project year 2010. The club will elect officers for the next year also. Four new members; Kalee Smith, Amber Spargo, Christina Spargo, and Richard Bucher were welcomed to the club. The next meeting is October 8th at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office meeting room.

Raystown Rabbit Ranchers 4-H Club, 8/22/09

On August 22nd the Raystown Rabbit Ranchers 4-H Club held their monthly meeting at the Extension Office at 9 a.m.

Allison Bousum and Morgan Brumbaugh led the American Pledge and the 4-H Pledge. For roll call, the members were asked to name a rabbit breed and say if it is a 4 or 6 class. The secretary and treasurer reports were approved as read.

Old Business - we discussed how the 09 County Fair Rabbit Show went. The comments thought that the show was good and well planned.

New Business - Members turned in their project books. We will be electing officers at the next meeting for the upcoming 4-H year. A game was played called "Rabbit Knowledge".

The next meeting is September 19th. Brooke Emery made a motion to adjourn the meeting and William Emery seconded it. Meeting adjourned.

Stone Valley 4-H Club, 7/11/09

The Stone Valley 4-H Club met on July 11th at the McAlvey's Fort Presbyterian Church. First, President Bill Davis called the meeting to order. Next, Owen Kauffman led us in the American Pledge and Kirsten Yale led the 4-H Pledge. Secretary Paige Wertz did roll call and the minutes from the last meeting. Marcus Yoder gave the Treasurer's report. Under old business, members who went to 4-H Camp were asked to give a short report about camp. Everyone said they had a good time and it was fun. In addition they said they wanted to go back again next year.

Under new business - we decided to do a club project and then a committe was formed. Stone Valley is working the 4-H Food Booth on Tuesday from 7 - 11 p.m. A sheet was passed around to sign up for 7 - 9 or 9 - 11 p.m. Next we had a program from Kitty Myers, County Dairy Princess. After she introduced herself, she did her speech about the ecomonic impact that dairy farmers have on their community. Then we did a word search and true and false questions and went over them. For snack, Kitty had milk and cheese for the club members to enjoy. After Kitty left, the meeting was adjourned and the next meeting will be September 12th.


The Stone Valley 4-H Club met on September 12 at the McAlevy's Fort Presbyterian Church. President Bill Davis called the meeting to order. Then, Owen Kauffman did the American Pledge and Becca Davis did the 4-H Pledge. Then, Secretary Paige Wertz did roll call and gave the secretary's report. Marcus Yoder gave the Treasurer's report.

Under old business, we discussed the cemetery mowing. More will be discussed at our next meeting. Under new business, all the project books were to be handed in . Also, we decided that the club will have a Christmas dinner on December 13th at the fire hall. Next, we had people talk about their fair experience this year. They told how their animals placed and other projects placed. Most of them said they had fun and it was a good experience. The meeting was adjourned and the next meeting will be January 9, 2010.

Capri Goat Club, 8/1/09

The Capri Goat club met on August 1st at the fairgrounds for cleanup. Michaela Smith led the American Pledge and Nick Whitmore led the 4-H Pledge. Samantha Bliss gave the secretary's report and there was no treasurer's report. The club will have a Johnson Hall display with the theme of "Our Fair is in Full Bloom". This Saturday, August 8th is move in day for all of the goats. Aminals must be there by 7 p.m.on Saturday. The market goat weigh in starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The goat obstacle cource is going to be Wednesday August 12 at 5 p.m. the livestock sale is Friday August 14th at 9 am. The next meeting is September 13th at 2 p.m. at the Portstown Park for the club picnic. Club members will hand in their 4-H books at the picnic.

Capri Goat 4-H Club, 7/9/09

The Capri Goat 4-H Club met on July 9th at the fairgrounds. The meeting was called to order by Jessica Mills. Katrinia Bliss led the American Pledge and Chely Miller led the 4-H Pledge. Samantha Bliss gave the Secretary's report and Megan Forgy gave the Treasurer's report. The club members are to keep bringing in canned goods for the Food Drive until next meeting. The club discussed club tee shirts for the fair. All new members will get theirs free; the club pays for the first one but you have to buy the others. At the fair, the Dairy Goat Show will start Sunday at 10 am; Peewee class is next; followed by the Showmanship Class. Members of the club got to choose if they wanted to work 11 - 1 or 1 - 3:00 in the food booth. The club discussed Johnson Hall display of "Our Fair is in Full Bloom" and "PA's Finest". There will be a committee that will be working on the display after the meetings. The club had a clipping demonstration by Andy Weikert to show how to clip for the show. The next meeting is August 1st at the fairgrounds for cleanup at 9 a.m.

Southern Pride 4-H Club, 7/7/09

The Southern Pride 4-H Club held their regularly scheduled meeting at the Community Bank of Orbisonia July 7th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Secretary Katie Anderson. The Pledges were led by Anna Goshorn and Derrick Cramer. Secretary Katie Anderson took roll call and read the secretary report from the June meeting. Chase Greene read the treasurer's report from the June meeting. Motions were made by Jessica Green and Keith Anderson to approve the reports.

Under Old Business - the fleece blanket project went well thanks was given to Tate and Beth Robinson for leading the project, 4-H camp went well the members who attended had a great week. Tye dye shirts were given to the members who could not attend the tye dye day with the club. Tye dyed shirts are for the food booth fair week.

Under new business - July 1st is deadline for livestock entry forms, July 20th is deadline for all Johnson Hall entry forms, July 13 and 14th Leaders Shannon Cramer and Brian Greene will be weighing club livestock. If any member wants their livestock weighed please talk to Shannon and Brian after the meting. August 1st is work day at the fairgrounds at 9 a.m. August 6th club will meet at 6 p.m. a the fairgrounds to finish any stall preparations. There will be no August meeting. July 25th Leader Kevin Goshorn will be with Dr. Judy Jaxtheimer for livestock vet inspections, all members showing livestock need to make arrangements with Kevin for inspection. July 11th Rabbit Ranchers club has invited our club to their annual picnic/showmanship workshop. All members were reminded to get sponsors and remit payments to the Junior Livestock committee.Members showing livestock were reminded to send out their buyer letters. All project books need to be handed in to Leader Carrie Anderson at the September meeting. July 18th there will be a Farm Safety Day 4 Kids at the Fairgrounds from 9 to 11 a.m. Members interested in helping will meet at the Anderson home to work on the Club Display for Johnson Hall, August 1st 4 p.m. Members doing a Rocket project will meet at the Anderson Home to launch rockets and complete project. The club will have a covered dish supper fair week - August 13th at 5:30 p.m. Meet at Brian Greene's camper and bring a dessert and main dish to share. August 29th the club will have their annual picnic at Cowans Gap State Park. Meet at 10 am and plan on eating at noon. Leader Beth Robinson is organizing this event, if you have any questions, please call Beth. The club is planning on doing a fleece blanket community service project in December; we will discuss the details during the September meeting.

Game and song leader Keith Anderson had a Fourth of July word scramble game. Tate Robinson and Jessica Greene won the game. Keith then led the club in singing Happy Birthday for July and August birthdays. A snack of brownies was provided by Anna Goshorn. Motion to adjourn the meeting were made by Chase Greene and Tate Robinson. Adjourned by Katie Anderson. The next meeting will be September 1st 6:30 p.m. at the Community State Bank.

The Southern Pride 4-H Club met August 29th at the Cowans Gap State Park for their annual picnic. Everyone brought a covered dish to share for lunch, along with hamburgers and hotdogs prepared by Todd Robinson. After the lunch time meal, the club enjoyed a day of fishing, swimming, walking and boating.


The Southern Pride 4-H club held their meeting at the Community State Bank on September 1st at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Dane Woodward. The pledges were led by Kaley Booher and Curtis Starr. Secretary Katie Anderson took roll call and read the secretary's report from the July meeting. Keith Anderson read the Treasurer's report. Motions were made by Keith Anderson and Derrick Cramer to approve the reports.

Under Old Business, the club talked about the fair and each member got to tell what they achieved at the fair. Leader Carrie Anderson thanked all of the members that donated money from the Livestock Sale back to the 4-H Forever Fund.

New Business - the club discussed having a fundraiser of ham sandwiches - the date set for delivery will be November 3rd. The livestock project books and officer books need to be handed in to Carrie Anderson at the meeting. Discussion about a hay ride to be held at John & Jennifer Goshorn's house on October 3rd, the time for the hayride will be set closer to the date. Plans are being made for the annual club banquet. They will be finalized at the October meeting. The club also wants to participate in the Mount Union Halloween parade and will make arrangements to decorate the float at the next meeting.

Game and song leader Keith Anderson ha a 4-H Trivia quiz game. Anna Goshorn and Dane Woodward won the game. Keith then led the club in signing Happy Birthday to September birthdays. A snack was provided by Bower and Orion Sarra. Motions to adjourn the meeting were made by Katie Anderson and Curtis Starr. Adjourned by Vice President Dane Woodward. The next meetin will be October 6th 6:30 p.m. at the Community State Bank.

Shaver's Creek 4-H Club, 7/6/09

Members of the Shaver's Creek 4-H Club worked on their project registration at the July meeting. Stephanie McGargle came and showed them how to fill out their project registration forms for the 2009 fair. Members are busy working on their many projects for the County Fair in August. Some of the projects include jewelry, woodworking, wildlife, swine, soapmaking, sewing, scrapbooking, rock collecting, rabbits, quilting, model cars, microwave cooking, lambs, glass etching, flower arrangement, fishing, drawing, cross stitching, cake decorating, basket weaving and public speaking. Feel free to stop by and see all these projects at Johnson Hall during Fair week August 9th through the 15th.

Sewing members Sarah Jefferies, Erin and Emily Mills, Layne and Logan Reihart, Paige Bousum and Anna Sajeski went to the regional fashion revue at the end of June at the Foxdale Village Retirement Community in State College. Anna and Layne were chosen to represent Huntingdon County at the state level. Layne was unable to attend so Sarah Jefferies, the first alternate will take her place at the state competition. All of these sewing projects and others will be on display at the Fair. The next meeting for the Shaver's Creek 4-H Club will be on Monday, September 14th at the Petersburg Bethel Church from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Huntingdon Hoofprinters 4-H Club, 7/20/09

The Hoofprinters 4-H Club held its meeting on July 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. The meeting was called to order by President Corey Price. Beth Whitmore led the American Pledge and Stephanie Mease led the 4-H members in the 4-H Pledge Following the pledges, Stephanie Mease gave the Secretary's report and Nancy Henry gave the Treasurer's report. Under old business, a report was given from both the living landscape committee and the Johnson Hall display committee. Future meetings will be planned to further discuss ideas.

Following old business, new business was discussed with the club deciding to sponsor a 4-H performance class at the County Fair. Members also signed up for shifts a the food booth for Friday, August 14 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The club decided to get new tee shirts for the fair which should be worn in the food booth. The shirts are ten dollars, but the club will pay half. Again this year at the fair, the Hoofprinters are sponsoring the stall decorating contest in the horse barns and the prizes will be Walmart gift cards. Clean up day for the fair is August 1st at 9 am and there is also another clean up for County Roundup on July 23 at 6:30 p.m. County roundup is July 25 at the fairgrounds and from 10:00 a.m. until non, a veterinarian will be present to issue CVIs for the fair. Members were also reminded that the production show is August 6th at the Huntingdon Horsemen's Showgrounds and the district show is September 12-13 at the Bedford Fairgrounds. On August 22, the 4-H Horse leaders are offering another countywide yard sale in Neary Hall to help raise funds for the horse programs in Huntingdon County. Jessica Meck historian also asked members to bring pictures for the club scrapbook.

Next project books were collected by the leaders and Jessica and Corey Price gave a presentation on the proper tack and clothing. President Corey Price adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be September 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. There will not be a regular meeting in August.

Countywide Dairy Beef 4-H Club, 6/13/09

The Countywide Dairy Beef 4-H Club got together on June 13th for an evening of bowling at the Holiday Bowl, Huntingdon. Everyone brought snacks to share and fun was had by all. The club met again on the 19th of July for the annual Family Picnic at Greenwood State Park. After a potluck dinner, a short meeting was conducted by Kelsey Dysard. The first order of business was voting on how much that our club should give to sponsor ribbers and prizes for our show. the voting then moved to decide the date for next year's picnic. It was also mentioned that everyone needed to have a vet see their animal before fair so that they are eligible to show fair week. Finally, everyone signed up for shifts at the food booth on Saturday afternoon of fair week. the meeting was adjourned, motioned by Sean Kenepp and seconded by Nikki Barnett. The next meeting will be held at Fair clean up day August 1st from 9 am until noon.

TCCA 4-H Club, 9/14/09

The TCCA 4-H Club met on Monday September 14 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Cassville Community Center. Kelsey Morgan called the meeting to order. Taylor Maslanik gave the secretary report. All the 4-H members that received ribbons and trophies at teh fair brought them and presented them to the club. Then, all the members stood up and gave reports on their time at the 09 Huntingdon County Fair. The most important thing that was addressed was that pretty much all the members said that they had a good time and had fun at the fair. Under new business, the leaders talked about what the duties of the club officers are and informed the club members that elections for the 2010 year will take place at the next meeting. Also the club would like to thank the Lions Club for allowing us to use their building so TCCA club members will help out and work at the Oktoberfest to show our appreciation. The next meeting will be October 12th from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Cassville Community Center.

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club, 7/13/09

On Monday, July 13th, the TCCA 4-H Club met for the final meeting before fair. Old business that we covered was tee shirts order and vet CVI for the fair. Tammy reminded the horse kids that books need turned in aa the next meeting. New business - members got their tee shirts. Tammy reminded all horse members that county roundup is July 25th and the books need turned into her at this meeting. Jody and the vet made their rounds to most of the homes for the CVI and everything is in order for the fair. August 1st is fair clean up - all kids are to be present. Finished up our scrapbook for the fair. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Shirley Variety Pak, 8/1/09

Cody Harshbarger led us in the American Pledge. Allen Seiberling led us in the 4-H Pledge. Valerie Coleman called the meeting to order. In the treasurer's report by Kendra Semple, we have a balance of $1,186.09. At our meeting, we went over the shots needed for aminals. We have started the scrapbook and any other pictures should be handed in to Valerie Coleman. You must be at the fair August 8 by 7 p.m. There is a new rule for the Huntingdon County Fair - the area must be cleaned for your animal by August 15th. If this rule is not followed you will have to pay $50 for each animal. Beef and pigs are not allowed to have any feed or water pans in their pens overnight. Tad Gutshall motioned to adjourn the meeting and Cody Harshbarger seconded it.

Shirley Variety Pak, 7/17/09

Catherine Myers led us in the American pledge. Kody Harshbarger led us in the 4-H pledge. Kody motioned to accept the roll call. Kendra Semple gave a treasurers report. In old business, livestock need quality assurance and we were to call Christine for any questions. At our meeting we took pictures for scrapbooks and officer photos. In new business, Saturday August 1 from 9am-noon is fair cleanup. Weigh-ins for goats and sheep are from 1-2 PM. Weigh-ins for market steers are from 2-4 PM. Weigh-ins for swine are from 5-6 PM. Weigh-ins for stragglers are from 6-7 PM. To send buyer letters you have to mail sponsorship forms and make sure the animals have had all vaccinations and shots. This goes for all animals except pigs. Breeding beef and dairy NEED to have rabies shots to go to the Huntingdon County Fair. Our club works at the food booth Sunday, Aug. 9 from 11-3. There is a new rule for market steer. The rule says when moving out of fair, clean up after yourself. On Monday of the fair, the skid loader contest is after tractor driving. Our next meeting is on August 1 at the fairgrounds at 12 at the beef barn. Tad Gutshall motioned to adjourn the meeting and Kendra Semple seconded the motion.

We had a 4-H picnic at the Yoders. We had a blast! We talked, played games, and had a wonderful afternoon. All entry forms for the District Show and the Huntingdon County Fair need to be at the Extension Office by July 1st. The Huntingdon County Fair and the District Show are just around the corner. Everyone is ecstatic and getting prepared for them.
