SPRING FARMS LIVESTOCK 4-H CLUB

The Spring Farms 4-H Livestock Club 's monthly meeting was cancelled for February due to bad weather. The meeting for March 9th was brought to order by Olivia Parks. It was held at the Community State Bank of Orbisonia meeting room. Gage Parks led the American Pledge and Brandon Erwin led the 4-H Pledge. Bryant Wible gave the Treasurer's report. Under old business, President Olivia Parks asked about who did or did not register on the e-date registration. Our leader Pam Morgan collected the fundraiser forms and Peanut Butter Meltaway candy bar money. Under new business, we had dates for our community service project to the Humane Society. On April 17th, items are to be collected and bowling on April 10th, 2010. Our leader then asked how the members' market steers and dairy beef were doing. We talked about who would need the Quality Assurance and Ethics training. Terri Grissinger will be at our May meeting. Our leader talked about donating $100 to the extension office for things at the fairgrounds. Everyone agreed. Our leader gave out the club tee shirts to new members and asked if anything else needed to be discussed. Next meeting is May 11 at 7 p.m. at the Community State Bank. Dalton Williams made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Gage Parks seconded the motion. We had refreshments brought by Michael, Katie and Heather Morgan and Brandon Erwin. Next meeting's refreshments will be brought by Bryant Wible.

Shaver's Creek 4-H Club

The Shaver's Creek 4-H Club met on March 1st at the Bethel Presbyterian Church. The meeting was called to order by President Emily Mills. The pledges were led by Charlie Watson and Sarah Jefferis. The secretary and treasurer's report were then given.

Under old business, we discussed the demonstrations given in February. Next, we collected the paperwork that had not been already collected. We were reminded of the change drive wer are having in our club as a community service project.

Under new business, members shared their experiences at workshops held at Juniata College. We then moved on to this month's demonstrations. The demonstrations were as followed: Volleyball - Anna Sajeski; Rabbits - Jesse Jefferis; and Bird Feeders - Mary Wilson. The meeting was adjourned. Shaver's Creek 4-H Club will have their next meeting on April 5th at 6:30 p.m. at the Bethel Church.

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club

The Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club held a meeting at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on March 8, 2010. The meeting started with a presentation animal feed nutrition. Brian Bilger with Big Valley Feed and Grain of Belleville, PA gave a power point presentation on the Basic Feeding and Management of Show Animals. The business portion of the meeting followed with snacks and drinks donated by Cora and Bruin Waite. The canned food drive for the Huntingdon County Food Bank came to an end. All donations will be delivered later this month. The countywide fund raisers also came to an end with members handing in their candle and pizza orders. All members were reminded of the April 1, 2010 4-H enrollment deadline. Abbey Cresswell, Cora Waite, Brandi Hobble and Hillarie Harkleroad reported on the 4-H Officers Training they all attended in February. It was reported that the cost of 4-H Camp this year is $100.00 per member. Any member wishing to sell hoagies to help pay for camp will get sales forms at the April meeting. Club members further discussed their options on raising a club animal for the 2010 4-H Livestock Sale at the Huntingdon County Fair. 4-H members and families were reminded that the Holiday Glow Bowling night is scheduled for March 27th at 8 - 10 pm. All livestock project tagging, except market steers will be on May 1st at the fairgrounds.
A Johnson Hall workshop will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on March 14th from 2 - 4 pm Crafts to be worked on are fabric painting (Continue painting back of shirt started last month) and a sewing project (bring fabric, interfacing and scissors). The next meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville starting at 6:30 p.m.

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club

The TCCA 4-H Club held a meeting at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on February 8, 2010. Club members donated canned food for their food drive and will continue till the next meeting. The countywide fund raiser was discussed and members asked for additional candy bars to sell. All members were reminded that candle and pizza orders with money are due at the next meeting. An officer training will be held February 27th at the Brumbaugh Science Center at Juniata College from 9 am - 3 pm. All club officers will be attending. New member TCCA 4-H shirts will be ordered. We need a count of people going to Holiday Bowl on March 27th. Club members and their families wishing to attend the glow bowling night need to contact Jodi. Jessica and Jamie Heeter shared with us their experience participating in the 2010 Farm Show. Additional project books were handed out. If any member still needs project books, please let Shelly or Jodi know. An additional online e-date enrollment workshop will be held at the Trough Creek Valley Elementary School on March 16th from 3:45 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Any member not enrolled by then needs to plan to attend. The online 4-H enrollment deadline is April 1st. Johnson Hall workshop will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on February 14, 2010 from 2 -4 pm Crafts to be worked on are fabric painting (bring white shirt and piece of cardboard) and a sewing project (bring fabric, interfacing and scissors). The possibility of raising a club animal project to sell at the fair livestock sale was discussed. Any member wishing to donate or raise animal for club should talk with Jodi. Members voted to use funds raised to purchase shared club equipment. This year's goal is to purchase clippers. Members were reminded that the club does have a set of scales for weighing your animals. Contact Jodi anytime you are interested in using them. The next meeting is scheduled for March 8th at the United Methodist Church in Cassville starting at 6:30 p.m.

Marklesburg 4-H Club

The Marklesburg 4-H club had a meeting on February 1, 2010. The meeting was called to to order at 7:00 by President Dani Riley. Emilie Brumbaugh and Lloyd Brumbaugh led the pledges. Both the secretary and treasurer's reports were read and approved by Taylor Cooepr and Ian Steward respectively. Under old business, members that showed or attended the PA Farm Show said waht they enjoyed about it. All fundraisers will be due at the next March 1st meeting with the money. Anyone who has not yet enrolled online needs to do so by April 1st. Dairy Beef can still be purchased until March 15. under new business the goat rule has changed, members can now choose to show a wether or a doe goat. No other rules were changed at this time. There will be a 2010 Club Officer and Leader Training at Juniata College on February 27th. Registration will be due the 17th of February. Lunch will be available for $8.00 in the dining hall. The Central Region 4-H Teen Retreat will be from March 19-21 at Seven Mountains Boy Scout Camp. The cost will be $65 if you register by February 19th and the Development Fund Committee will pay $20 per participant. 4-H Day with the Lady Lions will be February 7th at the Bryce Jordan Center. 4-H Camp's theme this year is "meet the future" Mini camp will be June 20-21 for members ages 8-10 and traditional camp will be June 21-24 for members ages 9 and up. It will be at camp Kanesatake in Spruce Creek. For more information on any of the events, members should check the newsletter or contact the extension office. Song and game leaders Levi Riley and Landen Morningstar led a competitive crossword puzzle game. Winners were for the different age groups - oldest - Emilie Brumbaugh; middle age - McKenzie Troutman and youngest - Hunter Troutman. Levi and Landen then led Happy Birthday to the February birthdays. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. first by Jake Bickel and seconded by Josh Russell. The next meeting will be March 1, 2010.

Countywide Dairy Beef 4-H Club

Our 4-H meeting was held on February 8 at the Extension Office. Our meeting was called to order by President Shawn Kenepp, the American Pledge was led by Titus Brown and the 4-H pledge by Missy States.

Our speaker Mr. Bilger from Belleville Feed and Grain gave an informative and entertaining talk about purchasing your alf and the proper way to feed it. Keeping water nearby was stressed as a way to keep your calf healthy and all around taking care of your calf was discussed.

After our speaker finished, we resumed our meeting. We turned in fundraiser forms and our new Tee shirt design was approved. After our meeting was adjourned, we enjoyed snacks that were provided by the Kenepp family.

Our next meeting will be on March 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.

Shayla Benson led us in the American Pledge. The 4-H Pledge was led by Kody Harshbarger. Valerie Coleman called the meeting to order. Our meeting this month was held at the Holdiay Bowl. The Whole club enjoyed bowling and pizza and had a fantastic time! Valerie, Kody, Gavi, Kathy, Austin, Tim, Michael, Preston and Ben from our club went to the Farm Show. We are selling pizza and candles for our fundraisers. Kendra Semple read us the treasurer's report. We will be going to the Shirley Home on April 3rd to make Easter baskets as our community service project. Gavi Walker motioned to adjourn the meeting and Kendra Semple seconded the motion.
