A regular Monthly meeting for the Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club was held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville. Club members turned in completed project record books and officer books.

A committee was formed to discuss float options for the local Halloween parades to be held in October. Committee members will meet on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at T&T's Restaurant in Three Springs, starting at 1:45 pm. Each committee members is asked to present a theme idea for the 4-H Halloween float. Continuing the clubs devotion to community Service, members will help the Trough Creek Valley Fire Company serve meals during the October Fest at the Lion's Community Building on September 24 and 25, 2011.

The next 4-H Alpaca Club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 8 at the Mt. Terrace Alpaca Farm, starting at 11:00 am. The next regular meeting for the Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club is scheduled for Monday, October 10 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville, PA starting at 6:30 pm. This will be the start of the 2011-2012 project year and officer nominations will be conducted. New members are welcome to join in the fun.

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club

Members of the Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club attended a Rabbit Showmanship Clinic held at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The Clinic was sponsored by the Rabbit Ranchers 4-H Club. 4-H members and their rabbits worked on showmanship skills instructed by Brooke Emery and leaders of the Rabbit Ranchers 4-H Club.

SOUTHERN PRIDE 4-H GOES CAMPING

Southern Pride Club members enjoyed a "tent" camp out on June 9-10 at Cowans Gap State Park. Members and families enjoyed a cookout for supper, then fishing, games and late night snacks of mountain pies and smores over the campfire. The next morning, everyone enjoyed a very appetizing breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast prepared over the camp fire by chef Dan Gaff . The day ended with club members completing a tie dye project with the help of Carrie and Katie Anderson, club leader and club president. Those participating included Dan, Alayna, and Kolton Gaff, Ellen and Gracie Long, Wayne, Carrie, Katie and Keith Anderson, Jennifer, Scotty, Chance, DeShane Goshorn, Jon, Jess, Joce and Justin Whitsel , Savanah Whitsel and Bonnie, Richard and Rich Bucher and special quests Monica, Shyanne, Jenna and Hayden Wible.

Summer Break Off to a Busy Start for Southern Pride

Southern Pride 4H Club participated in the annual Memorial Day Parade May 26th in Three Springs hosted by the Three Springs Fire Department and Lions Club. Club members threw bouncy balls during the parade to anticipating parade watchers. Wet weather did not dampen the spirit of the club. The club received Third Place for the float entries.

SOUTHERN PRIDE 4-H HOLDS MINI SHOWMANSHIP CLINIC

The regular monthly meeting of the Southern Pride 4-H club was held June 7 at the property of Kevin and Adaria Woodward who most graciously offered the use of their barn to the club as well. Carrie Anderson, Club Leader, began the meeting with announcements and an important lesson on ethics which is required for all 4H members. The remainder of the meeting was then run "workshop" style with members divided into groups according to the types of animals they show and work with. The groups rotated to the various stations to benefit members who work with more than one type of animal. Members learned fitting and showmanship skills at the various stations. A big thanks to the teen leaders, volunteers & parents who led the various groups. These included Wes Planthaver and Ellen Long, Megan Notestine - rabbits, Taylor and Tammy Maslanik-horses, Macy and Mandy Fisher -pigs, Wayne and Carrie Anderson -sheep, Kalee Anderson – goats, Katie Anderson and Shannon Fegan- Dairy Beef. After members were done at the various stations Tammy, Mandy and Macy Fisher had a Stockmans contest for club members to view various pieces of livestock equipment. Top three winners of the contest were Kalee, Mikara and Katie Anderson. Refreshments were enjoyed by all and provided by The Gaff, Fisher and Anderson families. The next club outing will be July 5th, pool party at Three Springs and July 12th Orbisonia Fire Hall, regular club meeting.

Pork Pizzazz 4-H Club

On June 29, the Pork Pizzazz 4-H Club held their monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m.. at the Huntingdon County Extension Office. Under Old Business, a few members attended
4-H camp and shared their experiences. 4-Hers were reminded to look for buyers and sponsors. Under New Business, the club discussed that the 4-H Food Booth is looking for kitchen workers for 6 hour shifts. If anyone was interested, contact Morgan at the Extension Office. The club's shift is on Monday from 10:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fair clean up day is July 30, 2011 at the fairgrounds. The club's shirts arrived. The club leader, Vicki Hamman did the quality assurance training with all club members.

Huntingdon County 4-H Beef Club

On June 15, 2011 the 4-H Beef Club held their monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. The American Pledge was led by Jordan Harnish and the 4-H Pledge was led by Austin Harnish. There were no secretary or treasurer's reports given. On June 25th there will be a showmanship clinic. You must register by June 23rd in order to attend. Under New Business, the fair packets are due on July 1st. Members of the club should be looking for sponsors. The next meeting will be on July 20 2011 in the show ring at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. John Nichols wil be presenting how to correctly clip your animals. You are to bring a covered dish with food. The club then had the Quality Assurance and Good Production Practices 1-3 so all members can show. The meeting was then adjourned by Austin Harnish and seconded by Brooke Emery.

Huntingdon County 4-H Beef Club

On June 4, 2011 the 4-H Beef Club did some community service work. The Beef Club went to the fairgrounds , holding paint brushes and cans of gray paint. They painted the show gates for the large show arena. Kids and parents spent time painting a lot of gates. Some kids went home with grey paint in their hair or on their arms (maybe both) but after they were finished, the club felt good about the time they spent painting the gates.

Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club

The Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club held a meeting at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on Monday, June 13, 2011. The meeting was called to order by club president Cora Waite. Guest speaker and club member Samantha Bliss, 2011 Dairy Princess gave a demonstration on the nutrients in milk. The Diary Princess also demonstrated how to make homemade ice cream using milk, two zip lock bags, vanilla, salt and ice. Each club member was able to make a single serving of ice cream by shaking their own bags.
A report was given by club county council representatives Abbey Cresswell and Brooke Shee. Club members attending 4-H camp in June held a ham and cheese sandwich sale in May. Nine club members also held a car wash in Cassville on Saturday, June 4, 2011 with the profit helping with camp costs. 4-H camp is scheduled for June 20-23, 2011 at Camp Kanesatake. Camp forms and rules were discussed with club members. Alpaca club members gave a report on the May 14th meeting held at the Terrace Mountain Alpaca Farm.
Upcoming deadlines for the 2011 Huntingdon County Fair were discussed with club members. July 1st is the deadline for livestock stall space reservations and also the deadline for livestock sponsorship forms. It is time to start thinking about fair livestock buyers and to be working on your buyer letters. Club members who are registered for the showmanship clinic to be held on Saturday, June 25 will need to be at the fairgrounds by 8:45 am.
A project education day will be held on Sunday, June 26 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at TK Custom Ceramics. Any club member who needs a ride should meet at the United Methodist Church in Cassville at 1:45 pm that day. Members will need to bring $5.00 to $10.00 dollars for ceramic project. A rabbit clinic will be held on Saturday, July 9 at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds starting at 11:00 am. Members, wishing to attend, need to bring a covered dish for a buffet lunch and one showmanship rabbit to participate in the clinic. July 9th is also 4-H night at the Altoona Curve. Forms were handed out for families to order tickets for this event. A showmanship clinic will be held at Scott and Carol Wright’s home in Cassville on Monday, July 11th to start at 6:00 pm. The next Alpaca Club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at the Terrace Mountain Alpaca Farm at 11 am.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, July 17, this will be our clubs summer picnic at the home of Dale and Cindy Morgan’s starting at 1:00 pm. Club members should bring their family, a covered dish, lawn chairs, and supplies to build bottle rockets.

A report was given by club county council representatives Abbey Cresswell and Brooke Shee. Livestock tag day was completed on Saturday, May 7 at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds. Club members discussed options for camp fund raisers. 4-H camp is scheduled for June 20-23, 2011 at Camp Kanesatake. The registration deadline is May 10, 2011.
A Showmanship Clinic is schedule for Saturday, June 25, 2011 to be held at the Huntingdon County Fair Grounds. Club members voted to pay for any club member who wished to attend. The Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club held a meeting at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on April 11, 2011. The meeting was called to order by club president Cora Waite. A market swine learning lab workshop was presented by leaders Jodi Cresswell and Shelly Waite.
A report was given on the county wide 4-H ham and cheese sandwich sale. All club members completed the April 1 deadline for the 4-H E-data registration deadline. A report was given by club county council representatives Abbey Cresswell and Brooke Shee.
Livestock tag day is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at the Huntingdon County Fair Grounds. The next Alpaca Club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at the Terrace Mountain Alpaca Farm at 11 am. A project education day will be held on Sunday, April 17 from 2-4 pm at the United Methodist Church in Cassville. A stockman’s competition training will be given by club leaders.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 9 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville, starting at 6:30 pm.

Southern Pride 4-H

On March 1st, 2011 the Southern Pride 4-H club held their regular scheduled monthly meeting. The meeting has held at the Rockhill/Orbisonia Fire Hall. The meeting was called to order by President Katie Anderson. Pledges were led by Chance and Scotty Goshorn. Roll call was taken by News Reporter Gracie Long and the Secretary report was read by Vice President Liz Scott. Treasure Derrick Cramer gave the treasures report.
Under Old business: The tour to Brennemans Meat Market in January was well attended and members learned several meat cuts and how meat is processed. The Roller skating party held in February was attended by 30 members and family and all that attended had a wonderful time. Leader Carrie Anderson reminded all new members and members that have not signed up for their club project books to please sign up tonight. Also, sign up sheets for club T-shirts, Share-A-Project, and New Member contact information is available. Under New Business: The Ham Sandwich sale orders and money were to be turned in to Shannon or Lori Cramer at the club meeting. Delivery is scheduled for March 30th and details for pick up will be announced at a later date. The club toured K Bar K farm in Petersburg, March 5th all sheep project members attended and learned a lot. Community service project for the club is Adopt-A-Highway and it is scheduled for March 26th, plan on meeting in Shade Gap and 10:00 a.m. Leader Carrie Anderson reminded the club that each member must attend a minimal of 5 club meetings to participate and show at the Huntingdon County Fair. Club T-shirts and Teen Leader T-shirts were handed out. Dates set for the following projects are Flower Arranging, meet at Precious Petals April 5th at 5:15, Ceramics meet at TK Custom Ceramic Shop, Mapleton March 21st 6 -7 p.m. and for Scrap booking and Photography the club will be going to Sarah Books April 12th at 6p.m. A Dairy Beef calf was donated by Doug and Angie Parsons, all proceeds will be donated to the club. A special thank to Rebecca Parsons and Gracie Long who will be feeding, training and working with this calf. Jon and Jennifer Goshorn announced that they have project pigs for sale, any members interested in purchasing please see Jon or Jennifer. After the business portion of the meeting member Gracie Long shared her Bug project and members Shavonna Fegan and Keith Anderson did a presentation on Market and Breeding Sheep Projects. The club then split into groups to work on Livestock Projects. Game Leader Orion Sarra had a special Leprechaun Game and the Parsons and Long families provided a special St. Patrick’s Day themed snack. Meeting was adjourned by President Katie Anderson. The next scheduled meeting will be April 5th, 6:30 at the Orbisonia/Rockhill Fire Company.

On Saturday March 5th, members of the Southern Pride 4-H club attended a tour of K Bar K farm in Petersburg, PA. The farm is owed and operated by Ken and Kathy Soder and son Nathan. To begin the tour the club first learned about the Registered Polled Dorset breed of sheep. The Soders raise pure breed Dorset sheep that are usually raised for a meat product. Because of the unique reproductive genetic practices and quality of the breed, most of the ewes and rams on the Soder farm are used as breeding stock rather than meat. A very unique and rare (to this area) method of reproduction is practiced at the Soder farm. The method that is practiced is artificial insemination; the semen used for breeding came from Brittan. Many of the Dorset sheep on the farm are 50% British and very true to the original breed. The club also learned about feed management. Kathy and Ken talked to the club about the farms feeding practices and the difference between feeding a market sheep or a breeding sheep. Also, how sheep in comparison to other animals graze, and that sheep are very selective about grazing pasture. The club also toured the sheep barn and was able to see lambing pens that are called “jugs”. Ken explained how each ewe would spend 24 -48 hours in a lambing jug to help the ewe and lamb bond, before returning them to pasture. Because of the reproductive method used, 80 of the ewes are expecting lambs all within a week. The Soder family will be very busy lambing in the next 5 to 7 days. Southern Pride would like to thank the Soder family for taking the time to talk to the 4-H members and share their sheep farm knowledge.

Southern Pride Enjoys Roller Skating

The Southern Pride 4H Club enjoyed a night of roller skating on February 26 at the Blue Mountain Skating Rink in Roxbury. Members skated to the Chicken Dance and the Limbo. There was also girls only and boys only skating under the sparkling disco ball. Members participating included (in no particular order) Savanna, Shyanne and Keith Sunderland, Kolyan Parsons, Joce Whitsel, Savanna Whitsel, Katie and Keith Anderson, Lexie and Mason Parks, Morgan Cornelius, Brock, Blake, and Camden Woodward, DeShane, Scott, and Chance Goshorn, Gracie Long, Hannah, Paige, Alison, and Rebecca Parsons, Curtis Starr, Taylor Maslanik, Trevor Duvall, Derrick and Garret Cramer, Shavonna Fegan, Brandon Bream, Kendra Parsons, and Madalyn Cisney and many other family members and friends.

4-H Hoofprinters Club

The 4-H Hoofprinters held their February make-up meeting on Monday March 7, 2011 at 6:30pm. The club discussed the many activities they are involved with and upcoming plans. They decided to make their club trip to the PSU barns on Saturday April 30th and become a charter member to the 4-H endowment fund. Members were reminded of this year's show dates and to update their edata account by April 1st. The club also turned in their ham and cheese sandwich fundraiser and signed up to sell peanut butter meltaways. Kadeja Nix and Stephanie Mease gave the club a presentation on the parts of Western and English equipment. On March 21, the club will be traveling to Grier School for their meeting and a reining presentation.

Southern Pride 4-H Club

On April 5th, 2011 the Southern Pride 4-H club held their
regular scheduled meeting.The meeting was held at the
Rockhill/Orbisonia Firehall.The meeting was called to
order by President Katie Anderson. Pledges were led by
Mikara Anderson and Raven Booher. Roll call was taken and
the secretary’s report was read by Hanna Booher. We had a
special guest, Wes Planthaver, he talked to us about
rabbit projects and good sportsmanship. Under old business
the club went on a sheep tour to K-Bar-K which was March
5th at Petersburg. Sign-up sheets for Fire Hall volunteer
workers, t-shirt, show shirts, sweatshirts, new members,
project books, and greeters were available.
Adopt-A-Highway was scheduled March 26th. After they were
finished they went to the Shade Gap Mini-Mart, special
thanks to Shannon and Lori Cramer for treating the members
to ice-cream. Also a thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Seagrist for a
special donation of $20.00. Under new business Relay For
Life, only 3 people signed up, anymore for a team?
Scrapbook Project will be held April 12th at 6:30 at Sarah
Book Photography. Ceramics will be held April 18th at
6:00-7:00 P.M.The dairy farm tour will be held April 16th
we will be taking a tour through Fulton Co. meeting at
Shade Gap at 10:00 A.M.You must attend 5 meetings to be
able to show livestock in the County Fair. Mikara Anderson
showed her flower arrangment of the best days of winter.
Then we broke into groups for livestock and crafts. Orion
Sarra provied a game and the snacks were donated by the
Booher and Yohn families.The meeting was adjourned by
President Katie Anderson. Our next meeting will be held on
May 3rd at the Firehall in Orbisonia.

The Trough Creek Community Adventurers 4-H Club held a meeting at the United Methodist Church in Cassville on February 14, 2011. The meeting was called to order by club president Cora Waite. A workshop on market beef and goat was instructed by club leader Jodi Cresswell.
A club family fun night is scheduled for Saturday, February 26 at Holiday Bowl from 8-10 pm. E-data registration deadline is April 1, 2011. Members gave a report on the first Alpaca club meeting held on Saturday, February 12 at the Terrace Mountain Alpaca Farm.
PA State 4-H week is March 13-19, 2001. Club members formed a committee of members interested in going to the Trough Creek Elementary School on Monday, March 14, 2011 to promote 4-H week. A motion was made and approved to submit the next payment to the 4-H endowment fund. 4-H survey papers were completed club members present at the meeting. The 4-H county wide ham and cheese sale papers were given to club members.
A project education will be held on Sunday, February 20 from 2-4 pm. Beef project education will be review at this meeting. The next Alpaca Club meeting will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Terrace Mountain Alpaca Farm at 11 am.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 12 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville, starting at 6:30 pm.
