June 1, 2010
Southern Pride 4-H Club held their regular monthly meeting on June 1st at 6:30p.m. at the home of Wayne and Carrie Anderson. The meeting was called to order by Leader Carrie Anderson. A brief business meeting was held and members were reminded to sign up to work in the Fair Food Booth, and also to check the 4-H newsletter for Showmanship Clinic and Ethics training dates. After the business portion of the meeting, members Macy and Amanda Fisher and Megan Notestine had a presentation for showmanship, fitting and stockman contest training. Members first learned about important items to keep in a show box, such as halters, grooming supplies, and first aide items. Macy and Amanda then began a presentation for the club with basic rules about general appearance and conduct in the show ring. They then continued the presentation by showing members how to do fitting/clip, halter, walk, set up and show a Goat, Sheep, Dairy Beef, Dairy Cattle, Market Steer and Swine. Megan informed the club about getting a rabbit ready for showmanship with clipping nails, bathing, and the steps in Showmanship. After the Showmanship presentation the club was invited to have a mock stockman contest. The members learned basic grains and feed along with various equipment used with livestock. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. and the club enjoyed a potluck of snacks provided by members. A very big Thank you to the Fisher and Notestine families for the presentation and wonderful teen leadership. The next meeting will be held July 6th at 6:30 p.m. at Community State Bank of Orbisonia.
